- Kindergarten teacher, mother, children's writer, environmentalist. That pretty much describes me in a nutshell. I live on a small island off the coast of Vancouver, Canada after living in many states and in New Zealand. I became a teacher because I wanted to share my love of learning and reading with children.

- Why should kids read?
- As a child reading helped me escape into another world when my world was too difficult to deal with. My father died when I was five and my family ended up moving a lot. I had a difficult time making friends and fitting in. Reading stories let me know that I was going to be okay through the difficult times and that I could survive them. They allowed my creativity to grow. They were a safe place to grow up.
