About Me:
I am an avid reader and began reading when I was five years old. A love of reading was fostered in my family and my parents and my older siblings often read to me.
I "grew up" to be a children's musician and many of my songs encourage reading and are extensions of children's literature. I have two daughters who are both bright, one is an avid reader and one is a "reluctant" reader (age 13).
I am a former elementary teacher with a Masters in Reading and have been a full-time children's musician for 11 years.
I love the library!

A Series of Unfortunate Events
Why should kids read?
Of course, everyone knows that reading opens up new vistas and possibilities in a child's world. Everyone knows that reading expands the mind, the vocabulary, the general world knowledge. But one thing I have always told my girls is that reading can clear your mind when you are troubled and take you out of a difficult situation. When something is bothering you and you are feeling very emotional, getting lost in a book for a while can be good therapy. When you come back to the "real world" you are often able to think more clearly about the situation and the options that are open to you.
When you have a good book with you, you are never alone.

Currently popular children's literature

Hi Everyone...

I am a children's musician who specializes in songs that encourage kids to "Get into books!"

My own daughters have always provided me with plenty of inspiration, but now that they are teens (17 and 13!!) I have fallen out of touch with the hot new stuff that's been coming out for younger kids. Can anyone suggest some titles for me to check out at my local library?

Also, please visit my website and sign my guestbook and read my blog there!

Thanks!…
