About Me:
I am an instructional assistant in a special education school in Hartford, Connecticut. I love reading to the students in my care because both sides benefit from it greatly. They can gain the sense of how a story works, which in turn will help them with their writing. It also makes them happy to be able to bond with you in that way. Also, by listening to their thoughts and questions about the stories, I can gain more knowledge about what interests them. I plan to pursue my master's degree so that I can become a Reading teacher. As I pursue that career, I will write as often as I can in the hopes of getting published. I have always possessed a love for the written language, and I hope to share that passion with others.

Why should kids read?
Children should read because literacy will help them in all areas of their lives, no matter what calling they are drawn to. The love of reading is a priceless gift that will stay with them forever.

I am excited about this site and I want to become more
involved in promoting literacy for children. I
saw Michael Buckley, the author of The Sisters
Grimm, speak at UConn in November. He mentioned
the importance of children's literature and the
difficulties we will face if kids turn to a
computer for stories instead of being read to. He
said that the audio books for children aren't
doing as well for a reason. I think that the
bonding and educational experience that can be
gained from reading to someone and being read to
is priceless. I know that having family members
read to me in the past has really stuck with me
throughout my life. I hope to share my thoughts
on this site and see what others have to say.
